When I was in Middle School, I was not a big fan of boys. Everyone told me to layoff, and that I was stereo-typing boys(TEENAGE BOYS, I wasn’t stereo-typing, I just stated the truth). My reputation, from the brighter students, was that I was a phsycotic feminist. I would aggree but, not to today’s terms. If your a parent, you’re probably thinking, “You were a teenage girl with hormones, you must have had a crush sooner or later”. My reply to that would be yes. Which, allows me to be Pro-women, just not to today’s terms.
My reputation in school was due to me insulting boys. In my defense, the scenario was always someone(A guy) who would say “He runs like a girl”, “He screams like a girl”, “He’s as emotional as a girl”,etc. I could not, and willl not, stay put and so I throw away the saying ‘A girl should be seen and not heard’. The longest I have ever, and will ever, keep quiet about that was forty-five seconds. For some reason, I hate a situation where the people around me are deaf to my voice, my ideas, and my opinions.
I can name five people, women I should say, who have made great accomplishments.
1.) Marie Curie -- Famous woman scientest.
2.) Elizabeth Blackwell -- First woman to get a medical deggree.
3.) Sacjewa -- Gave birth twice on the famous expidition of Lewis and Clark, carried one babe on her back across a nation, and was the only woman on the entire expedition.
4.) Elanor Roosevelt -- First lady and a published writer.
5.) Dianne Wynne Jones -- Author who wrote over 30 children’s book.
I did that within five minutes. Most people could do that, too. Only, the people they would have to think of were probably going to be men.
Every year I get more and more livid with the curiculum. My main reason would be we had never studied women's rights. Until my seventh grade L.A. teacher said we would. In my own way I felt like she was aiding me or on my side. Then, we got a handout that said"... because women didn't have any history to record. When she spoke she said, "Well, I don't know about you girls, but, I'm really offended. I just felt like yelling 'Finally someone aggrees with me.' I had finally gotten this feeling of imprisonment out of me. You know what? Every girl should feel like that.
My point is that you should become your own person. Just because you're a girl doesn't mean you're more limited than anybody else . Before I go I'll give you one last tip; If someone says you're a feminist, take it as a compliment.
